Mr. Olatunde Zacchaeus, one of the teachers rescued after the Oriire school abduction in Oyo State, has recounted the final moments before he and another captive regained their freedom.
Speaking in an interview with Nigeria Info FM, Zacchaeus said they remained blindfolded, handcuffed, and chained throughout their captivity. He explained that the kidnappers kept them restrained until the day they decided to release them.
According to Zacchaeus, the kidnappers’ commander arrived on the final day smiling and laughing before announcing that the captives should thank God because they were about to be freed.
“When they saw that things were not the way they wanted, they told us to be praying. So we were also praying until the last day when their commander came and they were just laughing, they were smiling. They said we should thank God that we have been freed,” he said.
Zacchaeus said the abductors then removed their blindfolds, handcuffs, and leg chains before ordering him and the other male victim to leave, bringing their ordeal to an end.
