A federal lawmaker representing Kogi State, Honourable Leke Abejide, has alleged that one of the suspects behind the attempted kidnapping of students in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area took his own life after realising he had been identified.
Abejide said this in an interview with Channels TV, “Some of them were arrested after they were identified and one of them, when he realised his cover had been blown, took his own life before he could be arrested. The security operatives are actually working in Kogi State. It is just that their numbers are insufficient,” he said.
Abejide called for stronger support for local hunter units, which he said have proven remarkably effective in confronting bandits directly.
He noted that some of the hunters possesses highly potent local charms that he claimed rivals conventional ammunition in the field.
For this reason, he argued that elected officials like himself must step in to organise and back these local fighters to fill in the gap that overstretched security forces cannot cover alone.
