Chelsea have reached a verbal agreement with Aston Villa to sign 23-year-old England forward Morgan Rogers for a club-record £117 million, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein.
The versatile attacker is expected to sign a six-year contract with an option for an additional year, while a medical is scheduled for Monday following his return from international duty. Arsenal had also shown strong interest, but Rogers reportedly chose a move to Stamford Bridge, with new manager Xabi Alonso playing a key role in securing the agreement.
Reacting to the reported transfer fee on X, broadcaster Piers Morgan described the valuation as excessive, writing: “For that kind of money, I’d expect Vinicius Jr or Kvaratskhelia.”
If completed, the transfer would make Rogers the most expensive English player in history, surpassing previous record deals involving domestic players and highlighting the Premier League’s continued spending power.
Rogers has impressed during his time at Aston Villa with consistent goals and assists, establishing himself as one of the league’s emerging attacking talents. The proposed signing represents another significant move in Chelsea’s summer transfer window.
