I Hope the Navy Officer Who Challenged Wike Is Still Serving; FCT Minister Seems Above the Law – Bugaje

Islamic scholar and civil society leader Usman Bugaje has criticized Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike, alleging that the minister acts as though he is above the law and faces limited institutional resistance.

Speaking in an interview published on SYMFONI’s official YouTube channel on Sunday, July 19, 2026, Bugaje argued that democratic institutions should uphold the rule of law without fear or favoritism, stressing that public officials must remain accountable regardless of their positions.

Referring to the FCT minister, Bugaje said, “Take the FCT Minister, for example. He seems to be above the law and is doing almost anything he really wants. But for that Navy officer, I hope he is still in the service, who really challenged him.”

He added that the Navy officer stood out because few others had openly challenged the minister, arguing that stronger institutional oversight is essential for promoting accountability and protecting democratic values through lawful engagement.

Bugaje concluded by calling for greater adherence to democratic principles, transparency and the rule of law, urging both leaders and citizens to safeguard accountability through peaceful civic engagement.
