Our Presidential Candidate Is There; Like I Always Say, Goodluck Jonathan Is Our Candidate — Umar

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain Umar Sani has insisted that former President Goodluck Jonathan remains the presidential candidate of the faction he belongs to despite the party’s ongoing leadership crisis.

Speaking on The Morning Show on Arise Television, Sani rejected claims that the PDP’s internal disputes had ended its chances ahead of the 2027 general election. He argued that the crisis had become a legal matter requiring the courts to interpret conflicting judgments over the party’s leadership.

“Our presidential candidate is there. Like I always say, Goodluck Jonathan is our presidential candidate,” Sani said.

He maintained that Jonathan has neither publicly rejected the nomination nor declared that he is unwilling to contest the presidency, arguing that his silence should not be interpreted as a refusal.

Sani expressed confidence that the PDP would resolve its leadership crisis and participate in the 2027 election after the courts issue final rulings. He also defended his faction’s legal strategy, saying the courts could direct the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise a candidate if necessary, citing the Ekiti governorship candidate’s case as a precedent.
