Dr. Katch Ononuju, Director-General of the Heritage Centre, has questioned what he described as differing levels of public and institutional reactions to kidnappings across Nigeria.
Speaking during an interview on SYMFONI TV, Ononuju argued that the abduction of schoolchildren and other kidnapping victims should receive the same level of national attention regardless of where the incidents occur.
“How come we do not have this kind of institutional outrage when children are also kidnapped in Northern Nigeria?” he asked.
Ononuju said all kidnapping victims deserve equal concern and support, stressing that security challenges should be treated as national rather than regional issues.
He argued that consistent national attention to kidnapping cases would encourage stronger institutional responses and improve public confidence in the country’s efforts to tackle insecurity.
The Heritage Centre Director-General added that every community affected by kidnapping should receive the same sense of urgency from the relevant authorities.
