The Court of Appeal in Lagos has upheld a Federal High Court judgment ordering the final forfeiture of multiple assets linked to retired Major General Emmanuel Atewe to the Federal Government.
According to an official judicial report published by Vanguard Newspaper on July 23, 2026, the appellate court unanimously dismissed Atewe’s appeal, ruling that it lacked merit. The court held that anti-graft investigators had established that the assets were proceeds of unlawful activity.
The forfeited assets include high-value real estate and bank accounts traced during investigations into public procurement and security allocations.
The ruling has been welcomed by legal commentators and anti-corruption advocates, who said the judgment reinforces judicial precedent in high-profile asset recovery cases and strengthens efforts to recover illicitly acquired public assets.
Following the decision, federal authorities confirmed that administrative procedures have begun to formally transfer the forfeited properties and funds into the Federal Government’s asset recovery register.
