Human rights activist Ann-Kio Briggs has expressed concern over the political and economic situation in Rivers State, saying the ongoing political crisis has brought governance and business activities to a near standstill.
Speaking during an interview on News Central TV on Thursday, July 23, 2026, Briggs said residents were bearing the brunt of the prolonged crisis, with economic activity slowing significantly across the state.
“If you come to Rivers State today, there is absolutely nothing that you can say that is going on. It’s like everything is at a standstill for certain people, certain politicians, but definitely for the people of Rivers State, everything is at a standstill. There is no money going around. There is no business that is really functioning,” Briggs said.
She described the situation as unfortunate for residents and warned that Rivers State could face greater challenges after the 2027 elections if political interests continue to take precedence over governance and the welfare of the people.
