Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has pledged that the newly launched Iru Ekun Security Network will help reclaim forests in Kwara State from bandits and other criminal groups.
According to The PUNCH on Thursday, July 23, 2026, Igboho made the remarks during the official launch of the outfit in Ilorin, saying it was established to complement the efforts of government security agencies in tackling kidnapping, banditry and other security threats.
“The presence of the Iru Ekun Security Network in Kwara has already unsettled the criminals. We are heading to Babanla, which many people now describe as a stronghold of bandits,” he said, adding that the team would also operate in Eruku to protect communities from criminal elements.
Igboho stressed that the group was not created to replace the police or military but to work alongside them. He urged residents, especially youths, to report individuals aiding criminals and advised communities to hand over suspects to the police rather than resort to mob justice.
He also rejected claims that the outfit targets any ethnic group, insisting its operations are focused solely on criminals. Igboho praised Kwara State Commissioner of Police Adekimi Ojo for previous cooperation, dismissed reports of opposition from Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, and expressed support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
