Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has criticised what he described as unequal enforcement of rules, recounting an incident in which his vehicle was clamped at an airport while larger convoys were allegedly left undisturbed.
Speaking during an interview on the Real Broadcasting Network (RBN), Obi said he was informed that his vehicle had been clamped for being wrongly parked. He explained that he typically travels to the airport with only one vehicle.
According to Obi, the incident highlighted what he sees as inconsistent treatment by authorities, as some public figures who arrive with long convoys are not subjected to similar enforcement.
“Somebody said to me, ‘Your car was wrongly parked at the airport; that’s why it was clamped.’ I said, ‘Whenever I go to the airport, I go with only one vehicle. I’ve seen people with 20 vehicles, yet mine is the only one that has its tyre removed and is clamped, while people who come with 20 vehicles are not touched,'” Obi said.
He made the remarks while discussing fairness and the equal application of rules, arguing that public authorities should enforce regulations consistently regardless of an individual’s status or position.
