An unidentified wheelbarrow pusher was found dead after reportedly stopping to rest along the Aba–Owerri Road in Abia State, prompting an investigation by the police into the circumstances surrounding his death.
According to a report by Daily Trust published on July 25, 2026, the man was seen earlier in the day pushing his wheelbarrow along the busy highway before deciding to take a break at a less congested section of the road.
Eyewitnesses said the worker had been walking along the roadside throughout the morning before stopping to rest after moving his wheelbarrow to an area where traffic was relatively light.
Residents and traders in the area said the man appeared to be taking a nap beside his wheelbarrow, and there was initially nothing to suggest that anything was wrong.
According to witnesses, the wheelbarrow pusher remained in the same position for several hours without moving, causing concern among passersby who noticed that he appeared to have lost consciousness.
As time passed, some residents and traders approached him in an attempt to wake him up. Their efforts were unsuccessful, raising fears that he may have died.
The discovery quickly attracted a large crowd, with curious residents and motorists gathering at the scene to find out what had happened.
