Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the NDC, has responded to claims by his running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, that they signed an agreement stating Obi would serve only one four-year term if elected in the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking in a video shared by Advocacy For Good Governance, Obi said his commitment to a single term is not dependent on a written document, arguing that a leader’s public promise should be treated as a binding commitment.
“It is not a question of signed agreement. A leader’s statement should be an agreement, it should be a promise,” Obi said.
He added that he has consistently told Nigerians he would serve for only four years and work to unite the country if elected.
“I have said it repeatedly that I will serve for four years just like I said I will unite the country. So these are agreements. Do you know what it means when you do campaign promise? It is agreement with the people,” Obi stated.
Obi’s remarks came in response to Kwankwaso’s assertion that both men had signed an agreement outlining a one-term presidency under their proposed 2027 ticket.
