Akin Osuntokun, former Political Adviser to ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, has claimed that Obasanjo facilitated the proposed presidential ticket between Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso ahead of the 2027 general election.
Speaking during an interview on Arise News, published on YouTube on Sunday, July 26, 2026, Osuntokun said both Obi and Kwankwaso have close ties with Obasanjo, whom he described as the key figure behind the alliance.
“He brokered the ticket between Obi and Kwankwaso, and both of them are quite close to him. So, of course, that is a ticket that makes sense and has the potential to make a lot of impact in the 2027 election. I can tell you for free that he was the one who brought the ticket together,” Osuntokun said.
He argued that the proposed alliance did not emerge by chance, maintaining that Obasanjo’s longstanding relationship with both politicians was instrumental in bringing them together.
Osuntokun also suggested that a joint Obi-Kwankwaso ticket would be more competitive than previous political arrangements involving Obi, citing Kwankwaso’s grassroots support and political influence as factors that could strengthen the alliance’s prospects in the 2027 presidential election.
