Kenneth Okonkwo, a former spokesperson for Peter Obi’s 2023 presidential campaign and current campaign spokesperson for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has criticised Obi over an ongoing defamation suit, alleging that the former presidential candidate has been selective in taking legal action against critics.
Speaking on Channels Television, Okonkwo questioned why Obi sued him while, according to him, not pursuing similar cases against other political figures.
“Just yesterday, the Minister of Aviation said that he lies like fish drinks water. Has he sued him? When Adams Oshiomhole talked, Obi said he didn’t have a face; he’s faceless. That’s why he didn’t sue him,” Okonkwo said.
He argued that defamation claims should be applied consistently if the objective is to protect one’s reputation, adding that public office comes with criticism and legal standards should be the same for all critics.
Okonkwo said he would defend himself in court, maintaining that the case against him lacks merit and expressing confidence that the judiciary would decide the matter based on the facts and the law.
