Chelsea suffered their first pre-season defeat under Xabi Alonso, losing 2-1 to Tottenham Hotspur at Accor Stadium in Sydney after Richarlison scored a stoppage-time winner.
According to The Chelsea Chronicle, Chelsea impressed despite the loss, dominating much of the second half after Tottenham were reduced to 10 men following Kevin Danso’s red card.
Summer signing Marco Palestra earned the highest rating (9/10) for his composed display at right-back, while Estevao Willian (8/10) scored Chelsea’s only goal and remained a constant attacking threat. Romeo Lavia also received 8/10 after an influential midfield performance.
Jorrel Hato, Dario Essugo, Jamie Gittens and João Pedro were each rated 7/10. Gittens provided the assist for Estevao’s goal, while Pedro won the foul that led to Danso’s dismissal.
Cole Palmer, Levi Colwill and Teddy Sharman-Lowe earned 6/10, with the goalkeeper making several key saves.
Wesley Fofana received the lowest rating (5/10) after a difficult outing in defence, with the report suggesting he faces increased competition following the arrival of Maxence Lacroix.
Among the substitutes, Aaron Anselmino impressed with a 7/10 cameo, while Mahdi Nicoll-Jazuli earned 6/10. Other late substitutes were not on the pitch long enough to be rated.
