Paul Ibe, media adviser and spokesperson to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has criticised President Bola Tinubu over remarks about hunger in Nigeria, describing them as insensitive and disconnected from the hardship facing citizens.
Speaking during an interview on Symfoni TV on Monday, August 3, 2026, Ibe referred to the President’s recent meeting with a delegation of the Catholic Bishops Conference, where Tinubu reportedly said Nigerians had been hungry before he was born.
“I think it was a couple of days ago, President Tinubu met with the delegation of the Catholic Bishops Conference, and… said, cheek in tongue, that Nigerians have been hungry before he was born. You and I know that we’re not even sure when Tinubu was born. It’s still a subject of controversy,” Ibe said.
He argued that the remark showed a lack of concern for the suffering of Nigerians, adding that while hunger may have existed previously, the current administration had presided over what he described as “a regime of multidimensional hunger and poverty.”
Ibe also questioned the government’s approach to population growth, asking what policies had been introduced to address the issue. He further criticised the administration’s performance, describing the past three years as “a monumental disaster.” The comments reflect Ibe’s opinions and allegations during the interview.
