Former President of the Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU), Dr. Jonathan Asake, says it is too early to predict which political party will win Nigeria’s January 2027 general elections, citing the country’s unpredictable political landscape.
In an interview with The Sun published on Saturday, July 18, 2026, Asake said that while political developments in Nigeria often defy expectations, he is confident the elections will be conducted as scheduled and produce a new government.
He expressed optimism about the country’s future, noting that Nigeria has overcome difficult periods in the past and that its democratic institutions remain capable of delivering another peaceful transition of power.
Asake added that although political parties and aspirants are already positioning themselves ahead of the polls, voters will ultimately determine the outcome through the ballot. He stressed the need for citizens to freely and peacefully exercise their democratic rights.
“As we draw closer to the elections, even with all the uncertainties, it will come to pass and the elections will be held. God loves this nation. A new government will still emerge, but which government is what I don’t know; which party is what I don’t know, and cannot tell,” he said.
