John Cardinal Onaiyekan, Archbishop Emeritus of the Catholic Archdiocese of Abuja, has revealed that Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke used his closing remarks at a peace accord meeting to present a five-page document containing allegations against the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking during an interview with Arise News, Onaiyekan said the meeting was convened to promote peace, unity, and political stability in Osun State. He noted that discussions proceeded smoothly and Adeleke signed the peace accord alongside other participants.
According to the cleric, the atmosphere changed when the governor was invited to deliver his closing remarks.
“I made reference to his concerns when I was giving the introductory speech. Then everything went well. He signed along with the rest. Then towards the end, before closing, I said, as usual, we now ask the governor to give us a closing remark. And here he came with five pages of strict, clear accusations, clearly targeted at the party in power, the APC. He specifically claims that his members are targeted,” Onaiyekan said.
He added that Adeleke alleged members of his political group had faced threats and intimidation by individuals linked to the APC, raising concerns that extended beyond the meeting’s peace-building objective.
