Apostle Johnson Suleman has urged Christians to view sin in light of its consequences for humanity rather than merely as an offense against God, saying such an understanding encourages righteous living.
Speaking during a sermon broadcast on Celebration TV on Sunday, July 12, 2026, Suleman said God’s concern about sin is rooted in its destructive effect on people.
“It is not about God; it is about you. Once you understand that sin destroys you more than it offends God, you will do everything possible to run away from it,” he said.
The cleric added that many believers mistakenly think their righteousness primarily benefits God.
“Many people think God benefits from their righteousness, but who are you?” he asked.
Suleman also cautioned against teachings that overemphasize human effort, saying they place unnecessary pressure on believers. Quoting Scripture, he noted that “our righteousness is like filthy rags” and rejected claims that preaching God’s grace encourages sin.
According to him, Christians who understand the destructive nature of sin will naturally seek to avoid it. He encouraged believers to rely on God’s grace while pursuing holy living, emphasizing that obedience flows from a relationship with God and the understanding that His commandments are for humanity’s good.
