Bandits attack rector’s residence, k!ll guard, abduct lecturer and others in Zamfara

Bandits attacked the residence of the Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda in Zamfara State, Dr. Aminu Yusuf, k!lling his security guard before abducting several residents.

 

A resident of Kaura Namoda, who spoke to Daily Trust on condition of anonymity, said the attackers stormed the town at about 1:00 a.m on Tuesday, July 28, 2026.

 

According to the source, the rector narrowly escaped with his wife and daughter after climbing over the perimeter fence of his residence.

 

“The rector used a ladder to scale the fence. He first assisted his wife and daughter to cross before climbing over himself. In the process, he sustained a dislocation in one of his legs,” the source said.

 

The source added that the bandits killed the rector’s security guard, identified as Isah Yankaba.

 

“I attended his funeral prayer in his hometown, Yankaba, where he was buried in accordance with Islamic rites,” the resident said.

 

After attacking the rector’s residence, the gunmen reportedly moved to Hayin Baguso, an area of Kaura Namoda bordering a stream near the Low-Cost Housing Estate, where they abducted the wife and daughter of a resident identified simply as Ibrahim.

 

The attackers also attempted to invade the residence of a petroleum dealer, Salisu Azaria, but fled after security personnel responded to the area.

 

The source further disclosed that the bandits later proceeded to the Low-Cost area of the town, where they abducted a university lecturer, Dr. Namadina Hamza.
