China’s ambassador to the United Nations, Sun Lei, has criticized recent U.S. military strikes on Iran, warning that the attacks have pushed the Middle East closer to what he described as a “dangerous precipice.”
According to a report by Al Jazeera English on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, Sun made the remarks after U.S. envoy Mike Waltz accused Beijing of failing to curb the flow of goods to Iran and Yemen.
Rejecting the allegation, the Chinese envoy said Beijing maintains strict oversight of its exports and does not support illegal shipments.
Sun argued that the latest U.S. military action has “once again” increased the risk of wider instability across the region.
He also dismissed Washington’s claims regarding Chinese exports as unfounded, insisting that China enforces rigorous export controls.
According to Sun, the United States should prioritize preventing further conflict rather than contributing to renewed tensions in the Middle East. He said Washington’s immediate focus should be on avoiding actions that could create additional crises and instability in the region.
