Confirmed: Super Eagles Goalkeeper Nwabali Returns to Chippa United

Chippa United have completed the signing of Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, marking the 30-year-old’s return to the South African Premiership club.

According to Daily Post, Nwabali became available after mutually terminating his contract with his previous club before agreeing to rejoin Chippa United. The goalkeeper earned widespread recognition for his performances at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, where he kept four consecutive clean sheets in normal time and attracted interest from clubs in South Africa, North Africa and the Middle East, including Saudi Arabia.

Despite receiving several offers, none met the required conditions, paving the way for his return to Chippa United, where he previously established himself as a dependable goalkeeper.

Nwabali’s career momentum slowed after losing his place in the starting lineup. His last league appearance came on November 4, 2025, when he kept a clean sheet in a goalless draw against Magesi FC. His limited playing time also contributed to his absence from Nigeria’s matches since January 17, including friendlies against Poland and Portugal, the Unity Cup in May and subsequent warm-up games.

Chippa United said the experienced goalkeeper will bring leadership, experience and stability as he aims to reclaim the club’s first-choice spot and earn a return to the Super Eagles.
