Kenneth Okonkwo, spokesperson for the Atiku Abubakar Presidential Campaign Organisation, has challenged reports surrounding criminal defamation proceedings involving Peter Obi, saying he has not been personally served with any court documents.
Speaking during a live interview on Channels Television on Thursday, July 2, 2026, Okonkwo alleged that the court order permitting substituted service was obtained through false representations. He said he first learned about the case through social media rather than official legal channels.
Addressing reports that the court approved substituted service, Okonkwo argued that such an order requires proof that genuine efforts were made to serve the defendant personally. “They listed one of my properties in Enugu as the address, and they know where I stay in Abuja,” he said, noting that the lawyers involved had previously worked with him on the presidential election legal team.
Okonkwo maintained that his Abuja residence was well known and claimed there had been no genuine attempt to serve him personally. He further alleged that he had instructed people at his Enugu property to receive any court documents, insisting the circumstances surrounding the affidavit supporting the application for substituted service raise serious concerns.
