Former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has commended the pilot and crew of an aircraft involved in a runway excursion, saying their professionalism prevented a major tragedy.
In a post on his official X account on Friday, July 24, 2026, Obi praised the flight crew for safely handling the incident, which resulted in all 68 passengers and crew disembarking without injuries.
“The pilot and crew members averted what could have been a major tragedy,” Obi said.
His remarks echoed those of the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, who described the incident as a runway excursion, a recognized aviation term, and confirmed that no lives were lost.
Expressing relief over the outcome, Obi said the actions of the pilot and crew prevented what could have become a national tragedy, while commending their professionalism and composure during the emergency.
