First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has urged Nigerian music stars, including Davido, Burna Boy, and Asake, to devote part of their wealth to supporting vulnerable Nigerians through charitable initiatives and foundations.
According to the Nigerian Tribune, Mrs. Tinubu made the appeal during the inauguration of the National Community Food Bank in Kogi State on Saturday, July 11, 2026. She said while there is nothing wrong with enjoying the rewards of success, wealthy Nigerians should also invest in programmes that help reduce poverty.
The First Lady encouraged entertainers, business leaders, and other affluent individuals to establish or expand humanitarian foundations, stressing that government alone cannot address the country’s economic challenges.
Citing Senegalese-American singer Akon as an example, she urged Nigerian celebrities to emulate his philanthropic efforts. She added that owning luxury vehicles such as Rolls-Royce and Maybach cars is acceptable but should not discourage successful individuals from giving back to society.
Mrs. Tinubu also highlighted the importance of small businesses, recounting how an unemployed university graduate who started selling akara in Abuja later expanded the business with support and now employs 12 workers. She said the story demonstrates how targeted empowerment can create jobs and improve livelihoods.
