Fulham Open Talks for Real Madrid Forward as Mourinho Leaves Final Decision to the Player

Fulham have opened talks to sign Real Madrid academy striker Gonzalo Garcia, according to a Madrid Universal report published on Wednesday, July 22, 2026.

Garcia impressed head coach José Mourinho during preseason, raising hopes of breaking into the first team. However, increased competition in attack, including the return of Endrick, has reduced his chances of regular playing time.

Fulham are reportedly leading the race for the highly rated forward as they seek to strengthen their attack ahead of the new season. The Premier League club’s interest is said to have been influenced by former Real Madrid coach Alvaro Arbeloa, while several other European clubs are also monitoring the youngster.

Real Madrid are open to a transfer provided their long-term interests are protected. The club is reportedly negotiating terms that would preserve certain rights over Garcia’s future development.

Although Mourinho is said to admire the teenager’s potential, he cannot guarantee him first-team opportunities and has left the final decision to the player, who must choose between staying to compete for limited minutes or leaving in search of regular senior football.
