Prince Adewole Adebayo, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has criticised the economic management of former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, alleging widespread fiscal mismanagement and diversion of public funds.
Speaking in an interview published on the official SYMFONI YouTube channel on Saturday, July 11, 2026, Adebayo alleged that the Buhari administration experienced “total fiscal collapse and monetary insanity.”
“The problem when former President Buhari was there was that they had total fiscal collapse and monetary insanity because they were stealing money from the government and diverting that money to buy forex,” he said.
Adebayo argued that the alleged diversion of public funds weakened fiscal management, contributed to economic instability, and undermined transparency and accountability in government financial institutions. He also claimed that fiscal and monetary policies failed to complement each other, creating economic distortions and making it more difficult to manage public resources effectively.
The former presidential candidate called for stronger accountability mechanisms, transparent public finance, closer coordination between fiscal and monetary authorities, and broader institutional reforms. He said such measures are necessary to restore public confidence, promote responsible resource management, and achieve long-term economic stability.
