“How Can You Say There’s Always Hunger When You Don’t Have a Date of Birth?” – Chidi Odinkalu

Human rights activist and former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, Chidi Odinkalu, has reacted to President Bola Tinubu’s recent remarks on hunger in Nigeria, questioning the President’s reference to events before his birth.

In a post shared on his official X account, Odinkalu criticised the President’s comments, arguing they reflected a lack of empathy for Nigerians facing economic hardship.

President Tinubu had recently stated that hunger existed before he was born, a remark that sparked widespread public debate and criticism.

Responding to the statement, Odinkalu questioned the President’s reference to his birth date, writing: “How can you say ‘there has always been hunger before I was born’ when you do not have a date of birth?”

The post generated mixed reactions on social media, with some users supporting Odinkalu’s criticism, while others argued that his remarks were politically motivated.
