Yusuf and Alice are good friends of mine. They are in some sort of relationship. They have not put a name to it yet, but they are sleeping with each other.
I have known Alice since we were kids, and she is like a sister to me. Yusuf and I, on the other hand, have been very close friends for about ten years. We all live in the same small town, and I am actually the reason the two of them met and started whatever it is they have going on.

Here’s the problem. Alice is also sleeping with other men, and from what I know, some of these encounters happen without protection. In our small town, news travels faster than light. It’s nearly impossible to keep anything quiet. Some of the men she’s been linked with are rumoured to be HIV positive. I want to be clear: this is town gossip. I don’t know for a fact if it’s true. I also don’t know exactly how far she’s gone with them or if she used protection with those men. But what I do know is that she and Harun are not using protection with each other.
There are so many “what ifs” running through my mind. What if she has contracted HIV? What if she has already passed it on to Yusuf?
You can see why I’m worried sick. It’s not just her lifestyle that troubles me, though yes, that’s part of it. It’s the “what ifs” that keep me up at night. What if she got infected and could infect him, or already has? I can’t just fold my arms and watch her do him like that.
In Alice’s own words, “I love him.” How do you love someone and still do the things she is doing?
She even comes to me and tells me about her escapades. I am the person she confides in, so I end up knowing things Yusuf doesn’t know.
Who Would You Choose, A Rich Man Or A Man Who’s Good In Bed?
I am stuck in the middle. I care about both of them, but I don’t know whether I should tell Yusuf what I know, warn him to protect himself, or stay out of their relationship completely. What would you do if you were in my position?
