A former National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, identified as Eniola, has shared how a road accident in 2021 left her permanently paralysed after she departed the NYSC orientation camp in Akwa Ibom State due to illness.
According to Punch, Eniola recounted her experience in a TikTok video shared by a friend, saying the accident occurred while she was travelling home from the camp. She sustained a spinal cord injury that left her paralysed from below the chest.
“I can’t move my legs. I can’t walk. It’s going to be five years by December. I lost sensation from below my breast downward. I can’t feel my body at all. I’ve also been battling bedsores,” she said.
Eniola said the injury has deprived her of mobility and independence, forcing her to rely on assistance for many daily activities. She added that she continues to struggle with complications, including persistent bedsores.
Her story has drawn widespread sympathy on social media, with many Nigerians expressing support and highlighting the long-term impact of spinal cord injuries.
