Bukola Daramola, the Queen of Ikerin-Opin in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, has recounted how a 14-year-old boy she raised was killed during a bandit attack on a church in the community.
Speaking to PUNCH on Sunday, July 5, 2026, Daramola said the boy was among worshippers attending a children’s anniversary rehearsal on May 25, 2026, when armed bandits attacked the church.
She explained that she initially prevented him from attending because they were the only two people at home. However, she eventually gave her consent after he pleaded with her and his friends came to invite him.
“I didn’t want him to go because it was just the two of us at home. He, however, pleaded with me to let him go because his friends had come to call him. I eventually agreed,” she said.
According to Daramola, the attackers stormed the church at about 7:30 p.m., opened fire before entering the building, and shot three people, including the 14-year-old. She added that 18 worshippers were abducted and taken into the bush during the attack.
