A Florida man, Gene Long, 33, says he had a profound near-death experience after doctors removed his life support following a two-month coma, during which he had been given a one per cent chance of survival.
According to Mirror Online, Long had been battling severe diabetes, addiction and homelessness when his blood sugar reportedly rose to 1,900, triggering a seizure, a fall and a brain bleed. After his family agreed to donate his organs and began planning his funeral, he unexpectedly regained consciousness just over an hour after life support was withdrawn.
Long said he experienced what he describes as the afterlife, claiming he walked across “a sea of energy,” encountered a radiant being he believes was the Holy Spirit and felt an overwhelming sense of love and peace. “Death isn’t the end,” he said.
Doctors had reportedly warned that, if he survived, he might never walk or speak again. Long said he eventually recovered, overcame his drug addiction without withdrawal symptoms, saw his organs recover, and experienced remission of his diabetes. He now shares his story to encourage people facing hardship, describing his recovery as a second chance at life.
