According to the Daily Post on Friday, July 3, 2026, African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain Kenneth Okonkwo has recalled defending Peter Obi during an alleged harassment incident in Edo State, despite no longer serving as the former Anambra State governor’s spokesperson.
Okonkwo made the remarks while responding to a defamation suit filed against him by Obi. The legal action follows a ruling by the Anambra State High Court in Onitsha permitting substituted service after attempts to personally serve court documents failed. The court ordered that the documents be pasted at Okonkwo’s last known address in Nsukka, Enugu State, or delivered to any adult at the residence.
Speaking on Channels Television, Okonkwo rejected suggestions that he should seek reconciliation with Obi. He said he had previously defended Obi when he believed his safety was at risk.
“I don’t think I should. Even when the governor of Edo State harassed him, I wasn’t speaking for him again. But I told him that even though I’m not speaking for him, he’s my brother, and if anything happens to him, you will know that even a madman has brothers. I came out to defend you, but now he is taking me to court,” Okonkwo said.
