I Sat Down With the President’s Son Yesterday, and I Saw Something Else; He’s Worried—Ex-Obi’s Ally

Ikenna Azomchine, a former ally of Peter Obi, has said his recent meeting with the son of President Bola Tinubu left him convinced that the younger Tinubu is concerned about Nigeria’s future and committed to seeing the country improve.

Azomchine made the remarks during an interview on Trust TV on Thursday, June 11, 2026, while discussing engagement with the presidency and efforts to address issues affecting Nigerians.

The former Obi ally also spoke about his relationship with leaders of the Obidient Movement, stating that he works closely with Tanko and remains conscious of the responsibility of representing the concerns of supporters seeking solutions to the country’s challenges.

According to him, engagement with government officials and key stakeholders can be more productive than criticism that is not accompanied by practical alternatives.

“I work directly with Tanko. If I sit here today and tell you what does not exist, then the Obidients are looking at me. The only thing I want to tell Nigerians today is that I sat down with the son of the president yesterday, and I saw something else. I saw a passionate young man; he’s worried, he wants Nigeria to be good,” Azomchine said.

He argued that Nigerians who desire change should also be willing to contribute ideas and solutions that can help improve governance.

Azomchine maintained that his decision to engage with individuals close to the presidency is aimed at ensuring that the concerns of ordinary citizens are heard at the highest levels of government. He added that meaningful progress would require dialogue, cooperation and a focus on practical solutions to national challenges.
