Ifeyinwa Nwani, the first wife of late Nollywood actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, has spoken about the sacrifices she made during the early years of his career and the eventual breakdown of their marriage.
According to a Premium Times Nigeria report published on Saturday, July 4, Ifeyinwa told online creator Babatunde Lucky that she married Mr Ibu on November 19, 1994, and welcomed their son, Daniel, in 1995. She said Mr Ibu worked as an electrician in Onitsha while she sold pepper to support the family and regularly gave him money to build contacts in the entertainment industry.
Ifeyinwa alleged that Mr Ibu’s attitude changed after he began securing acting roles, claiming he became involved with their landlady, who encouraged him to leave the marriage. She said he sent her and their son away in January 1997 after a trip to their hometown, although the marriage was never formally dissolved.
She also disputed claims that Stella Maris was Mr Ibu’s only wife, alleging the actor had other relationships and children before marrying Stella. Ifeyinwa further accused Stella of selling some of Mr Ibu’s properties in Enugu and Lagos after his death. Stella has not publicly responded to the allegations.
