Senator Abdulfatai Buhari, who represents Oyo North Senatorial District, has recounted how he encouraged Professor Alamo, the husband of abducted school principal Mrs. Rachel Alamo, during the victims’ captivity following the Oriire school abduction.
Speaking in an interview on Arise TV, Buhari said Professor Alamo frequently contacted him for updates while his wife and other victims remained in captivity.
The senator said that about three weeks before the victims were rescued, he noticed that Professor Alamo had become increasingly distressed and feared the worst. Buhari said he visited him to offer reassurance, expressing confidence that his wife and the other abducted victims would return safely.
“I went to him, I talked to him and I explained to him that, ‘Look, your wife will not forgive you, even in the grave if she comes back and you’re not there. I can assure you that nothing has happened to them,'” Buhari said.
According to the senator, Professor Alamo visited his residence in Ogbomoso on the day the victims were released, and they discussed the situation before he left at about 3:30 p.m.
Buhari added that he later received messages claiming the abducted schoolchildren had been freed but initially dismissed them because he could not verify the reports. He said he became convinced after seeing a confirmation from presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga announcing the victims’ release.
