National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) President Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, says formal education is not the only path to acquiring knowledge, arguing that years of practical experience have shaped his success.
According to a report by the Daily Post on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, MC Oluomo made the remarks at the 50th birthday celebration of Islamic singer Hafsat Adegoke in Lagos.
Reflecting on his journey, he said he began his career as a bus conductor and gradually rose through the ranks of the transport union through dedication, hard work and practical learning.
Although he did not receive formal education, MC Oluomo said he never allowed that to limit his ambitions, adding that experience and continuous learning outside the classroom can also contribute significantly to success.
He, however, stressed that he placed a high value on education by ensuring his children received quality schooling.
“I used to tell people that if I am uneducated, glory be to God. My children today are a doctor, a lawyer, and an engineer, and they are in America. God should not let our children die an untimely death,” he said.
MC Oluomo added that he joined the NURTW through legitimate means and advanced to its leadership by learning every aspect of the profession and earning each promotion through years of service.
His comments have drawn attention for highlighting both the importance he places on education for the younger generation and his belief that practical experience can be as valuable as formal academic qualifications in achieving success.
