Charles Omole, Director General of the Institute for Police and Security Policy Research, has called for broader investigations into kidnapping networks, arguing that criminal groups often rely on support systems that enable them to keep victims in captivity for extended periods.
Speaking on Channels Television, Omole said security agencies should focus not only on the kidnappers but also on individuals who may knowingly or unknowingly provide logistical support to their operations.
“For example, if you kidnapped 40 children, you have to feed them every day. Where do you buy the food from? The food has to be cooked for them daily. Who does the cooking? Clearly, not the bad guys that kidnapped them,” he said.
Omole maintained that identifying and dismantling these wider support networks would make it more difficult for kidnapping syndicates to operate. He added that stronger collaboration between security agencies and the public is essential to improving investigations, preventing abductions and enhancing public safety across the country.
