The Oyo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called for a comprehensive investigation into the abduction of 44 pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area, saying the incident raises questions beyond a routine security challenge.
According to The PUNCH, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Michael Ogunsina, said the scale of the kidnapping was unprecedented during Governor Seyi Makinde’s more than seven years in office.
“If you look at Wike’s statement on the Oyo abduction, there are facts that show there is more to the matter,” Ogunsina said. He added, “This is the first time we are witnessing a kidnapping of this magnitude since Governor Seyi Makinde came into office over seven years ago. That alone raises questions about whether there were influential people behind the operation.”
Ogunsina argued that previous comments by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, had fueled public speculation but did not present evidence to support claims of external involvement.
Following the rescue, Governor Makinde said the victims were receiving medical treatment and psychosocial support before being reunited with their families, while state officials commended security agencies for securing their release.
