Dr. Charles Oludare has announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing alleged irregularities in the party’s Ondo State governorship primary and concerns over the state of Nigeria’s democracy.

Speaking in an interview on Nevon HQ on Thursday, July 2, 2026, Oludare said his decision was driven by what he described as a growing erosion of internal democracy and increasing intolerance of political opposition within the ruling party.

“I am resigning from APC because we are turning Nigeria into China, into a one-party state, and I have complained about this even when I was in APC that the APC is going to damage democracy,” he said.

Oludare said he had repeatedly raised his concerns with the party leadership but claimed they were ignored. He argued that weakening opposition parties and suppressing dissent could undermine Nigeria’s multiparty democracy and long-term political stability.

He also linked his resignation to the APC’s Ondo governorship primary, which he criticised as lacking transparency and fairness, stressing that credible primary elections and respect for dissenting views are essential to restoring public confidence in the country’s democratic institutions.
