Rauf Aregbesola, National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has said he served two terms as governor of Osun State without owning a personal house, stating that he lived in a friend’s residence throughout his eight years in office.
According to a Nigerian Tribune report published on Thursday, July 23, 2026, Aregbesola made the remarks in a video shared with his supporters while reflecting on his years in public service.
The former Osun State governor said he deliberately focused on service rather than personal gain and did not use his time in office to acquire a private residence. He explained that he continued to live in accommodation belonging to a friend throughout his tenure.
Reflecting on the values that guided his administration, Aregbesola emphasized discipline, restraint and dedication to governance, describing his experience as uncommon among public office holders.
“I’m the first governor in Nigeria to rule a state for eight years without owning a house of my own,” Aregbesola said.
