Elder statesman and former Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) National Secretary, Dr. Usman Bugaje, has criticized the relationship between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, describing the situation as troubling for Nigeria’s leadership.
Speaking in an interview on Symfoni TV on Sunday, July 19, 2026, Bugaje said it was disappointing to see the Vice President treated in a manner he believes undermines the dignity of the office.
He argued that the presidency should project unity, cooperation and mutual respect, particularly at a time when Nigeria is grappling with economic hardship and security challenges. According to him, visible disagreements among top government officials risk creating an impression of instability and weakening public confidence in the administration.
Bugaje also urged political leaders to place the interests of Nigerians above personal or partisan considerations, stressing that citizens are more concerned with solutions to rising living costs, unemployment, insecurity and poverty.
He maintained that governments are ultimately judged by their ability to address public needs through effective reforms, accountability and good governance, calling on public officials to uphold humility and respect for constitutional offices.
