Former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has criticised the Presidency over its response to claims by NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi that his life and businesses are under threat.
In a post on his official X account on July 9, 2026, Kwankwaso reacted after Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, described Obi as a “pathological liar” and a propagandist.
Kwankwaso said Obi had raised concerns about his safety and that the government should have responded with restraint and maturity instead of personal attacks. He argued that a government entrusted with protecting citizens should not dismiss or mock what it considers credible calls for help.
He added that in a democracy, all citizens should be treated equally regardless of tribe, religion or political affiliation.
Kwankwaso wrote: “Even more troubling was the Federal Government’s response, which resorted to personal insults and derogatory language instead of the restraint and maturity expected of a democratic administration.”
