Sunday Favor, a witness to the shooting of Lagos truck driver Peter Francis, has alleged that police officers fled the scene after realizing the victim was seriously injured during an incident at a checkpoint in Ketu.
Speaking in an interview with Punch Newspapers on Thursday, July 30, 2026, Favor claimed the officers deployed tear gas instead of assisting the wounded driver.
“When they now saw that he was already bleeding, they put teargas and ran away. I started shouting for help and some soldiers heard the gun and came,” he said.
According to Favor, the soldiers responded after hearing gunfire and his calls for help. He said they arrived at the scene, assessed the situation and rendered assistance after finding Francis with a severe gunshot wound.
Francis, who later had one of his legs amputated, has alleged that he was shot by police officers at the Ketu checkpoint. Favor’s account adds to the allegations surrounding the June 12 incident, which has attracted widespread public attention, with the witness maintaining that the victim was bleeding heavily when the officers allegedly abandoned the scene.
