Man Utd Reach Agreement to Sign France World Cup Star for Carrick

Manchester United have reportedly reached an agreement in principle with AS Roma midfielder Manu Kone as they move closer to signing the France international.

According to Daily Post on Friday, July 24, 2026, the 25-year-old has emerged as one of Europe’s most sought-after midfielders following his impressive performances for France at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

French newspaper L’Equipe reported that United are now leading the race for Kone’s signature, with the midfielder said to be keen on joining the Old Trafford club as manager Michael Carrick continues rebuilding his squad ahead of the new season.

Arsenal and Chelsea had also been linked with the former Borussia Monchengladbach player, with Chelsea reportedly holding talks with his representatives. Former Blues defender Glen Johnson had publicly backed the club to pursue the midfielder.

United have prioritised strengthening their midfield during the summer transfer window, viewing Kone as an ideal fit because of his ball-winning ability, work rate, composure in possession and versatility. The French international has established himself as one of Serie A’s most consistent midfielders during his time at AS Roma, and the Premier League club now appears to be closing in on completing the transfer.
