Anita Baaki, a physiotherapist and colleague of the late Mary Habila, has recounted the final moments she shared with the nurse before her death during an official trip to Ebonyi State.
According to Daily Post, Baaki’s account was contained in a sworn affidavit presented before the Ebonyi State High Court on Wednesday. She said she travelled from Abuja to Ebonyi on June 24, 2026, with Habila and other Federal Ministry of Works officials for an assignment supervised by Minister of Works David Umahi.
Baaki stated that the team stayed in separate but adjoining rooms in a staff chalet within Umahi’s country home in Uburu, Ohaozara Local Government Area, stressing that the facility was designated for ministry personnel and associates, not the minister’s private residence.
She recalled that on the evening of June 26, Habila returned after having her hair done, visited her room, and they chatted briefly.
“Habila told me she was tired and wanted to take a shower before sleeping. That was the last time I saw her alive,” Baaki said.
She added that concern arose the following morning when Habila failed to answer repeated phone calls, prompting her to knock on her colleague’s door to check on her.
