My Ambition Is Not About Igbo People, but I Want a Nigeria Where the Child of Nobody Can Become Somebody — Obi

Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi has said his ambition to become Nigeria’s president is driven by a desire to build a country where every citizen has an equal opportunity to succeed, regardless of ethnic or religious background.

Speaking at a leadership programme organised by the NextGen Mentorship and Leadership Initiative at Madonna University, Okija, Anambra State, Obi urged Nigerians not to view his presidential aspiration through an ethnic lens.

He said his vision is to create a fair society where opportunities are based on merit rather than personal connections or family background, allowing citizens to succeed through hard work, talent and determination.

Obi stressed that his presidential bid is not intended to advance the interests of any ethnic group but to establish a system that guarantees equal opportunities for all Nigerians. He argued that the country must embrace meritocracy, reward excellence and promote social mobility instead of favouritism.

“It is not about Igbo people, but I want a Nigeria where the child of a nobody can become somebody without knowing anybody. We want a country that will work. The greatest beneficiaries of my presidency will be the North,” Obi said.
