Human rights activist and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has disclosed that members of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) sought his support after the party was deregistered while he was detained at Kuje Correctional Centre.
Speaking in a video shared by TV Platinum on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, Sowore commented on the Federal High Court judgment in Lokoja that voided the NDC’s registration following allegations by the Peace Movement Party (PMP) that the NDC hijacked its party logo.
Recalling his time in detention, Sowore said NDC members reached out to him after the court’s decision.
“They were sending messages to me in prison that, ‘Sowore, our party has been deregistered,’” he said.
The court ruling comes ahead of the 2027 presidential election and has generated debate over the future of the NDC and its participation in Nigeria’s political process.
