Buba Galadima, a stalwart of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has said the party’s presidential ambition is founded on national unity rather than ethnic identity, insisting that Peter Obi’s candidacy is intended to serve all Nigerians.
Speaking during an interview shared on the official YouTube channel of Arise TV on Thursday, July 16, 2026, Galadima rejected attempts to portray the party’s presidential ticket as an ethnic project.
“We are making Peter Obi the president of Nigeria, not the president of one ethnic group,” Galadima said.
According to him, the NDC is focused on building an inclusive government that will address the challenges facing Nigerians regardless of their region, religion, or ethnic background.
Galadima argued that Nigeria’s political future should be determined by competence, vision, and the ability to unite the country rather than by ethnic considerations.
He added that the country has a history of successful political partnerships across regional lines and urged Nigerians to continue embracing that tradition.
The NDC stalwart also called on citizens to move beyond divisive politics and support leaders committed to national development.
According to Galadima, lasting progress can only be achieved when Nigerians see themselves first as citizens of one nation rather than identifying primarily along ethnic lines.
He expressed confidence that the party’s message of inclusion and unity would resonate with voters ahead of the 2027 general election, adding that the NDC remains committed to promoting fairness, equal opportunities, and development across the country.
