The National Publicity Secretary of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Professor Tukur Muhammed-Baba, has expressed doubts about the ability of NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi to replicate his 2023 election performance in the 2027 general election.
Muhammed-Baba made the remarks during an interview on Arise News aired on June 9, 2026, while discussing the political situation in Northern Nigeria and the prospects of various political actors ahead of the next election cycle.
According to him, many Nigerians are becoming increasingly frustrated with political parties and political leaders due to worsening economic hardship and persistent insecurity across the country. He said voters are now more focused on practical solutions to national challenges than political rhetoric or personal ambitions.
Assessing Obi’s political standing, particularly in the North, Muhammed-Baba acknowledged that the former Anambra State governor recorded significant gains during the 2023 presidential election. However, he questioned whether the same level of support could be achieved again in 2027.
“I’ll be surprised if he performs as well as he did in 2023; the question is, what does he want?” Muhammed-Baba said.
He further argued that many politicians seeking the presidency have yet to clearly explain how they intend to address the country’s major problems. According to him, Nigerians are increasingly demanding concrete policies on security, economic recovery, infrastructure development and social welfare.
Muhammed-Baba maintained that political parties and candidates must present credible alternatives capable of tackling the nation’s challenges if they hope to gain public trust and support ahead of the 2027 elections.
